I have a question for you in regards to the install of the key.
From my readings about the key all you do is solder it in and it works…..therefore if you de solder and remove the key your wii will return to normal operation…is this correct? If so, why is it not possible to solder in some adaptions and make the wii key plugable…..that way when someone wants to play back up game they can plug in the wiikey then unplugg it after playing…then there is no way that nintendo can hack in through wii24connect or new games will not brick the wii. Dont ALLOW your wii to update with a different version to your console (if you have PAL wii, and you put in NTSC paper mario it wil want to update. Select NO and get a PAL version to update with first. Then you will be able to play NTSC back up i think)

Hi Shannon,

Interesting idea, many other system such as satellite systems and if I remember old PS1 console mod chips operated like this (a disable switch on the outside of the machine).

I don’t see why this could not be installed like that.

I just got my Wii Key (and wii clip) yesterday and I have to say that it works very well.

Words of advice because I couldn’t find these things very easily:

Use ImgBurn and burn Discs at 4x.
If your Gecko seems like it’s not working, tuck a piece of heavy stock paper or regular paper folded over behind the connectors inside of the gecko (you’ll have to open it up). This was driving me nuts!
Order a wii key from a reseller listed on the wiikey home page to avoid a clone.

enjoy

Hey, i recently got a Wii key. When i got it done i took it to someone (not naming anyone) who does it out of his garage for a living. The place looked like a proper workshop. There were stacks of Wii’s and 360’s there, so the guy isn’t dodgey. He tested a burnt game when he was done. and it worked fine. but when i tried another burnt game at home it didn’t work. keeps saying that it cannot recognize the disk. What could the cause of this problem be?

Hi Garry,

It could be the media type. I have heard that Memorex DVD-R works good.
