Neuros Set Top Box adds Wiimote support

Categories: PC Connect, Video, Wiimote Hack.

The Neuros system now has Wiimote support! Have a look at it in action after the jump.

“As most of you know, the LINK started out life as what we call a “TVPC,” namely a disc-less, quiet computer that’s configured specifically for bringing Internet video to the tv. From that foundation, it’s rapidly evolving to provide a more seamless couch experience. One area that’s receiving a lot of attention is the controller.

Recently, we’ve been spending some time prototyping with motion sensing controllers, including the Nintendo wii controller. The significant thing about this kind of interface is that it allows an easy way to have both standard menu navigation (up down left right) as well as free form mouse control, which is still needed for web browsing. There’s even a virtual keyboard
(which we certainly won’t use in production).”

Wiimote throw into TV Caught on Tape

Categories: Funny, Video.

We have heard about lots of Wii remotes that have had wrist strap failures. There have also been lots of pictures of the aftermath. But this is the first time I have ever seen the act of ramming the Wiimote into the TV screen caught on tape. I hope that game of Wii Bowling was worth it!

Wii Balance Board Labyrinth Game

Categories: PC Connect, Video.

Here is a cool use for the Wii Balance Board. In this application it controls the labyrinth just like you could do with a joystick.

Video after the break.

Link

“Currently the game is using two servos and an Arduino to turn the knobs that move the game surface. I bought my Labyrinth game at a Tuesday Morning store for less than $10. The servos were about $10 each and my Arduino cost around $30. I often use the AdaFruit BoArduinos in the robotics workshops I teach which cost $17.50 so that could reduce the overall cost to build this project.”

Looks like there is now a way to play Gameboy games on the Wii. There are a few steps that you need to do but it looks like it would be worth it.

DIY Wiimote Zapper Gun

Categories: Wiimote Hack.

If you want to save some money why not make a Wii Zapper instead of buying one.

“I made it from plastic acrylate sheets, but you could also make it from cardboard. A tip is to use cardboard from a cereal box because it have a large flat surface and is very strong or laminate the print. I left the top open so you could easily remove the Wii mote and also could press the buttons easily. I used few elastic bands to hold it in place. Cause I did not want to make it that your Wii remote would get stuck in it and that you could not take it out again.”

Wii Zapper Gun Hack

Categories: Wiimote Hack.

All the Wii guns are functional and make the shooting games more fun but none of the guns are very realistic. This hack uses a more realistic gun to make playing Wii games more fun!

Link

“Playing shooters with the Wii is an enormous fun but all the guns I could find were so bad; using the Wii Zapper you need to use a different trigger finger using just the normal Wiimote-mounted pistols is still bad, because using the A-button is complicated…The solution was using an old air-soft MP5 and get a Wiimote in there. Because the first attempt was really a prototype an a friend of me asked me to if I could build him one as well I decided to comment the building to upload it here. It took me about three days to build it”

Nunchuck Controller Robot

Categories: Video, Wiimote Hack.

With a simple adapter board the Wii Nunchuck can be connected to a microcontroller. When this is done you have full control of all the electronic signals that are available. What can be done? How about drive a robot!

N64 in a Wii Case

Categories: Funny, Wii Console Hack.

It has been sold but you would be able to duplicate the results of this mod with a bit of effort. I wouldn’t recommend you do this to make a profit though since the mod sold on Ebay for only $157.50.

Link Via Via Via
“This is a Nintendo 64 in a Wii case, very different, but it was done, and in all works! it is a Wii case that has been modified to fit a n64 inside, and function perfectly well! There is a power on switch that was a xbox 360 left trigger, that was modified to be a switch! there is no reset button, but that is not even needed anyways.”

Wii Drum High

Categories: PC Connect, Video.

This cool hack allows you to enhance the function of your Wii by playing the drums on it! The Wiimote accelerometers are used to read in the user gestures and turn it into music.

Link

“Wii Drum High integrates all three kinds of Wii controllers to stimulate a complete drum set of Hi-hat, Snare, Base drum, Crash cymbal, Ride cymbal, Mid tom and Low tom. Up to 4 sets of Wii remote and nunchuk can be used at the same time. (one of my colleague succeeded in connecting 5 wiimotes to a PC, but I’ve never tried)

This software is written in C# and utilizes Windows Presentation Foundation (or WPF) within .NET Framework 3.5 for user interface and animation. The data from wii controllers is collected using Brian Peek’s WiimoteLib API, and sound is programmed with DirectSound.”
