Wii Drum High

Categories: PC Connect, Video.

This cool hack allows you to enhance the function of your Wii by playing the drums on it! The Wiimote accelerometers are used to read in the user gestures and turn it into music.

“Wii Drum High integrates all three kinds of Wii controllers to stimulate a complete drum set of Hi-hat, Snare, Base drum, Crash cymbal, Ride cymbal, Mid tom and Low tom. Up to 4 sets of Wii remote and nunchuk can be used at the same time. (one of my colleague succeeded in connecting 5 wiimotes to a PC, but I’ve never tried)

This software is written in C# and utilizes Windows Presentation Foundation (or WPF) within .NET Framework 3.5 for user interface and animation. The data from wii controllers is collected using Brian Peek’s WiimoteLib API, and sound is programmed with DirectSound.”

Wii Dual NAND Flash Hack

Categories: Video, Wii Console Hack.

This hack lets you witch between a few NAND Flash chips which would let you select how you want to boot.

Video after the jump.

“He’s found some extra chips (see below) that are the same as the ones inside a Wii — he then desoldered his System-Menu 3.1U Wii’s flash chip from the Wii, and cloned it onto the two extra chips using an Infectus chip and amoxiflash. This way, if anything goes wrong, he can always desolder this hack from his Wii and go back to the normal one.”

Wiitendo – Hack a Wii into a NES Case

Categories: Video, Wii Console Hack.

What makes a Nintendo Wii even better? A Wii that looks like the classic NES console!

Video after the jump.

“This project was a labor of love and took some hours to gut our original Nintendo so that the Wii fit nicely inside. This required lots of dremel tool action. Wired in some fun LEDs, used some Gamecube extention cables to access the ports, threw in a large Gamecube memory card, and waalah, the Wiitendo is born!”

Wii Nunchuck and Arduino controls 3D Studio Max

Categories: PC Connect, Video, Wiimote Hack.

This project uses a Wii Nunchuck and Arduino to controls 3D Studio Max.

“A good way to control objects in 3DS is to use the track view to assign different type of controllers to the various properties of the object you want to control. For instance, if you want to have small vibrations on the tip of a bird’s wing, you can use a Noise Controller. For this setup, I used the Motion Capture controller.

3DS can use different inputs to allow motion capture : Mouse, Keyboard, Joystick or MIDI. I wanted to use some kind of “translation” in processing to emulate a HID device, but it seems to be impossible… So I used MIDI.

Here’s my setup under windows :
- Arduino using a WiiChuck adapter from todbot (thanks kurt ^^) and the WiiChuck library from Tim Hirzel
- Data sent to Processing via serial connection and translated to MIDI CC messages using the proMIDI library by Christian Riekoff
- MIDI output from processing sent to midiYoke
- midiYoke sends this data to Ableton Live
- Ableton re-sends the CC messages to midiYoke
- Using Float Motion Capture controllers on 3D Studio Max to rotate the objects according to the pitch and roll of the wiichuck…”

Wiimote Shot to the Head – Color Gun

Categories: PC Connect, Video, Wiimote Hack.

Looks like you can now shoot yourself in the head and watch the spray pattern. Not sure how this idea came about but the visuals are interesting.

“Made using a laptop running Max/MSP/Jitter, a video camera, a projector, a wii remote, and sound editing programs. The program tracked the position of the people’s heads using color tracking. The colorful blood was dynamically generated by the Jitter patch depending on where the head was. The direction of the spray depended on which side of the head the gun(wii remote with green flashlight attached) was shot.”

Wiimba – Wiimote and Roomba Robot

Categories: Insane, Video, Wiimote Hack.

Here is a inspirational hack. Take two items that were not meant for hacking and make them interface together. A Wiimote and a Roomba make for an interesting robot! Video after the jump.

“This is my first roomba hacking.
I can say it is a kind of warning for the society taken over by robots. It is a noble challenge to take the human job back from the robots.
In short, I changed my wonderful roomba into an ordinary dull vacuum clearner using a remote controller of Wii :-)

Wii Homebrew Channel

Categories: Video, Wii Console Hack, Wii Info.

The Wii Homebrew Channel is moving full speed ahead. Looks like we have lots of great things coming in the near future.

“The Homebrew Channel is a channel for launching Wii homebrew applications without the need to run the Twilight Hack first. It will list apps stored and organised on an SD card in a nice little GUI, which you can very easily customise with descriptions and shiny little .png icons all by yourself if you want. You can also launch homebrew apps via TCP (with a correctly configured PC) or USB Gecko. Both of those built in options make it extremely convenient for testing out new code, as well as a general purpose homebrew launcher. You’ve seen the video,
now try it yourself!”

Wiimote Controls Lego Robot

Categories: PC Connect, Video, Wiimote Hack.

There is now a way to control your LEGO creations using your Nintendo Wiimote!

“OnBrick is a 20 button programmable NXT remote controller for PDAs & PCs, using Bluetooth. Each RC button executes a user defined program – so now you can play with your NXT robots while building them. Pretty useful for testing sensors too. There are 36 actions, most with a single parameter, including calibrated moves, wait for sensor events, simple sounds, individual motor control & power settings, loops… ”
